MA – Vol 2: Thrice: Vheissu

vheissuThis album has mellowed out in comparison to the previous one but still good. I like the transition. I myself have begun to enjoy less of the hard music than in the past, so this is definitely welcome. Many notable songs, however, it has be over a week since I truly listened to it so I’d suggest just listening to the whole thing.

Solid album. Great evolution.

MA – Vol 2: Thrice: The Artist In The Ambulance

artist-in-the-ambulanceWhen I think Thrice this album is what I think. Basically metal-core. Good solid album though. Enjoyable through and through but nothing truly stands out. All the songs kinda blend together and soon enough the album feels like one big song.

Not a strong start for Thrice.

MA – Vol 2: Thursday: Waiting

waitingTo finish off my Thursday volume I was told to go back to their first album. I’m not sure this was a good idea. I like first albums better when they are the first one that I listen to. After hearing an album that’s been polished, properly mixed and the talent of the band has improved, I don’t want to hear them sounding like they recorded an album out of a garage when they were still pre-teens. I just can’t get into something like that.

It does, however, make me appreciate the more recent albums more.

MA – Vol 2: Thursday: Common Existence

common_existenceCall me a broken record but this album still falls short of War All The Time. That album was amazing, this one is still pretty good but not up to the standard that I’m now expecting after listening to War All The Time. A City By The Light Divided had a couple of good songs and the rest were “whatever” and this whole album falls inbetween good songs and whatever songs.

Nothing to write home about.

MA – Vol 2: Thursday: A City By The Light Divided

city_by_the_light_dividedSorry to all you die hard Thursday fans but my response to this album was, “Meh”. Yea, okay. It’s fine, but nothing special. I can’t get into an album that falls short of all of the headway the band made with their previous one. It feels like they got such a great response with War All The Time that they just threw out another album for the sake of increasing their discography numbers.

If I listened to this album before War All The Time then I might have felt differently but I didn’t. There is the odd song that I enjoyed, but not enough.

MA – Vol 2: Thursday: War All The Time

Okay. Yea, I know. This one is being posted far too late. All I can say is that I actually got a job and it has left me very tired afterwards.

war_all_the_timeAnyways, this album is amazing. I love it. There is not much more in a hardcore album that I could ask for. The guitars are driven and the vocals are spot on. This is way better than Full Collapse. After hearing this one I’ve concluded that Full Collapse doesn’t make the grade. War All The Time is on the list. I’ll listen to this album by choice, in fact I have already.

If you’re not familiar with this album then get familiar.

MA – Vol 2: Thursday: Full Collapse

full_collapseIn this trial the judge will have to call a mistrial. The jury has been tampered with. Thursday is one of those bands that is known to most. You don’t need to listen to them to know what kind of music the perform. However, that’s only face value it’s not enough if you want to become musically aware.

Full Collapse is a typical hardcore album but doesn’t bring all that much to the table when it comes to vocals. They’re undeveloped and have a hard time staying on key. Because of this, the album is hard to listen to. If you can overlook weak vocals for the mediocre hardcore album then listen to Full Collapse otherwise maybe you should just move on down the line.

MA – Vol 1: Sunny Day Real Estate: The Rising Tide

disc_risingtideThis album is everything a Sunny Day Real Estate fan can ask for.  Yes, I am ready to call myself a fan. The Rising Tide is more than I could’ve hoped for. After listening to their last two albums I didn’t expect this one to be such an amazing treasure. They’ve been able to raise the bar with every new album.

With news of them reuniting, one can only hope for the continuation of this uncompleted evolution that they started 15 years ago. Make sure you listen to Disappear. It won’t disappoint!

MA – Vol 1: Sunny Day Real Estate: How It Feels to Be Something On

disc_hiftbsoThis is the album where production no longer sits in the con column. They’ve hit their mark and leave nothing to be desired. Through their first two albums Sunny Day Real Estate has defined themselves and leave only the opportunity to evolve.

Officially this band has now become a group that I will choose to listen to after their week is over. This album holds one particular song that stands out to me. A song that after hearing it for the first time I had to listen to it all over again. I’ve included it for your listening pleasure.

MA – Vol 1: Sunny Day Real Estate: LP2 (The Pink Album)

disc_lp2After listening to Diary I assumed that I had it all figured out, that is the direction they are headed musically. Boy was I wrong. I expected Sunny Day Real Estate to get harder. Instead they decided to become more ambient and somber. They reclined in melancholy reminiscent of Radiohead. Enjoying this album was not hard even though their production on this album is definitely a step up from Diary it’s still not up to today’s standards.

One can only imagine where they will take me with the next album, which I’ve heard is better than the two I’ve already had the pleasure of hearing.
